Kate volunteered at Bellevue Hospital working in the Pediatric ward holding and singing to babies with HIV/AIDS babies, work she found great solace in. She later volunteered providing one-on-one support to women diagnosed with cancer. In the 1990s Kate was involved in Free Tibet and met the Dali Lama.
