Ann and James Guthrie 10th September 2010

Kate was an impresario at creating gatherings of people like herself—bright, intelligent, successful and full of powerful ideas. Dinners with Kate became salons during which guests discovered just how much respect they had for each others’ opposing points of view on the most controversial issues. Kate would pose a question, a seemingly innocent thought balloon, perhaps about art, perhaps politics, but always thorny, with an ironic wink and a smile. Before we knew it she had spun us into a highly energized, intellectually stimulated passel of puppies. We always came away amazed that so many people with such strong and conflicting opinions could play so nicely together. Kate knew why. Ann and Jim Guthrie
